Duties

You will serve as Information Systems Security Manager responsible for the management and administration of processes and tools that enable the organization to identify, document, and access intellectual capital and information content.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team.  Typical work assignments include:

  • Collecting and maintaining data needed to meet cybersecurity reporting.
  • Ensuring that security improvement actions are evaluated, validated, and implemented as required. 
  • Participating in an information security risk assessment during the Security Assessment and Authorization process.
  • Participating  or contributing to the computer environment cybersecurity program plans and requirements.
  • Providing system-related input on technical requirements to be included in statements of work and other appropriate procurement documents.
  • Constructing access paths to suites of information (e.g., link pages) to facilitate access by end-users.
  • Developing an understanding of the needs and requirements of information end-users.
  • Monitoring and report the usage of knowledge management assets and resources.
  • Providing recommendations on data structures and databases that ensure correct and quality production of reports/management information.
  • Managing the indexing/cataloguing, storage, and access of explicit organizational knowledge (e.g., hard copy documents, digital files).
  • Promoting knowledge sharing between information owners/users through an organization's operational processes and systems.
  • Using secure file sharing technology to process and share files with internal and external business partners.
  • Exercising independent judgment and discretion when assisting with IT contract negotiations and investments; performing studies, data, or analysis that may result in changes of organizational structures or staffing levels requiring labor relation matters.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience includes the following: Applying database tools and software to perform data analyses; evaluating requirements and analyzing alternatives regarding database support for applications; and writing reports to recommended courses of action that address the results of Information Technology (IT) application analyses; using methods to evaluate, implement, and disseminate IT security tools and procedures; using secure file transfer technologies to process and share files with internal and external business partners.

OR master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience includes the following:  Applying database tools and software to perform data analyses; evaluating requirements and analyzing alternatives regarding database support for applications; writing reports to recommended courses of action that address the results of Information Technology (IT) application analyses; troubleshooting and resolving problems with systems or applications; implementing and coordinating activities designed to ensure, protect, and restore IT systems, services and capabilities; monitoring and evaluating systems compliance with IT security requirements; using secure file transfer technologies to process and share files with internal and external business partners.

OR Applicants may substitute successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.M, if related).

OR A combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and graduate education (as described above) that is beyond the second year of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. 

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement, you must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
