Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Supervisory Government Information Specialist (Director, Privacy Oversight) a key advisor to the Senior Director (Policy & Oversight) where you will maintain, coordinate, and develop the operational process for Privacy Compliance Reviews (PCRs) and other privacy and oversight responsibilities at the Department.

As a Supervisory Government Information Specialist (Director, Privacy Oversight) GS 0306 15, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Maintain, coordinate, and further develop the operational process for Privacy Compliance Reviews (PCRs).
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, lead, counsel, and evaluate performance of subordinate staff.
  • Represent the Senior Director and the DHS Privacy Office in internal working groups and interagency policy committees (IPCs), sub-IPCs, interagency working groups, meetings before other audiences, both domestic and international.
  • Participates in top-level meetings with department officials and contributes advice on privacy oversight policy.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level (starting salary $144,128) if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:

  • Managing and implementing privacy compliance reviews/or analyzing oversight of privacy programs;
  • Providing oversight, liaison and evaluation of privacy policies and programs to component organizations and stakeholders in accordance with federal and state laws;
  • Conducting investigations on privacy policy and oversight issues; AND
  • Developing major aspects of the Department's privacy policies and oversight program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service.

Selectee may be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.
