You will provide support for all procurement of transportation, storage and related services for personal property of Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Defense (DOD) civilian and military personnel assigned to TRACEN Petaluma. 

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.  

Typical work assignments include:

-Serving as the senior Transportation Assistant responsible for performing all personnel property services functions.

-Conducting studies and analyses of local transportation characteristics and operating practices, and recommending changes to programs and procedures.

-Conducting group, individual orientation and counseling sessions to inform property owners of traffic management matters.

-Advising shipping unit personnel of all new benefits, privileges or responsibilities affecting shipment needs and services desired by owners.

-Assisting and informing members,dependents and civilian employees regarding travel/transportation entitlements, personnel loss/damage claims and other benefits and privileges.

-Establishing and evaluating acceptable levels of work performance.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience are:

-Advising property owners on the regulations of shipment and/or storage of household goods.

-Assisting with personnel property functions for inbound moves, outbound moves, temporary and non-temporary storage, Direct Procurement Method contracts, Personally Procured moves, mobile homes, privately owned vehicles, and boats.

-Assisting with studies of tariffs, traffic, rates, charges, operating practices, carrier's equipment, shipment facilities, and safety requirements.

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
